I enjoy solitary mornings making pictures – especially in winter. As long as I can stay warm enough, no easy task some mornings in the mountains, the crisp air and the stillness and quiet are lovely and, at least for me, recharging.

I wasn’t expecting rays across the snow on Ferril Lake. I had actually set out to the boat house to try and catch the early sun hitting the façade and it took me a moment to realize the possibilities.
I still struggle with that aspect of photography – flexibility. When I go out to shoot sunrise I want sunrise, not macro or wildlife. I get my sights set on something and tend to focus a little to hard – put the blinders on and go.
The nice thing about relaxing your expectations when practicing your photography is that you never know what you’ll come up with.
